Verizon internet is down in the middle of a Wednesday business day, 11/11/2009, supposedly for maintenance and updates. As a long time software and computer maintenance installer, please tell me why a 'major' company picks a buys time to do maintence?

The service is slow, their response is negative, yet they want to sell the customer more options. When I purchased the one yeat contract for a very decent price, my first bill was over $600, with multiple options and services which they claimed to install but didn't and they refused to honor my rate unless I accepted a two year contract.
