There is terrible noise and distortion on the phone line. I cannot hear what the caller is saying.

Called Verizon and the soonest they can get somebody to find out what is going on is two weeks from now. What am I supposed to do without a phone for two weeks. We had a problem a year ago with no phone service because of a break in the line. We had to go without service for two weeks and then they could not find the problem because it would only occur when it was wet.

That problem corrected itself but to wait two weeks for service is way beyond the normal response time. We live in a suburban area close to a metropolitan area so location is not an issue.
